The Mishtapew Awards of Excellence Gala was created to recognize the expertise of aboriginal and non-aboriginal entrepreneurs of Canada, to promote the diversity of products and services and reward their know-how. This is a unique occasion to encourage business partnerships between aboriginal and non-aboriginal peoples.

During this outstanding evening where aboriginal cuisine and a multicultural show will be showcased, nearly forty enterprises will be nominated in fourteen categories linked to various sectors of the global economy : Labour development, partnership, involvement in the aboriginal community, agri-food, tourism, culture, communication, French-speaking world, exportation, trade and services, natural resources, international radiance, business creation and entrepreneurial local support.

One non-aboriginal company will receive an award for distinguishing itself in the aboriginal business community and responding to the mission of the FPBA, to promote exchange and alliances between aboriginal and non-aboriginal peoples.

Finally, two special awards will be presented. The Aboriginal company of the year award will reward a company that has distinguished itself in a special manner throughout its existence. The honorary Life member award will be given to an entrepreneur for his life achievements. For the 2002 edition, the recipients are Princess Raphaella and Prince Alfred von Liechtenstein, president of the Vienna World Peace University.

For the second year in a row, the Mishtapew Jury, consisting of fourteen members, will be presided by Jean-François Lépine, a reporter at Radio-Canada and host of the television program Zone libre.

The 5th anniversary of the Gala, with the topic Sacred fire, will present a show symbolizing the various forms of artistic expression of the First people. The Gala will be aired on Radio-Canada national television network.

For the first time this year, the general public and guests will be able to appreciate the products offered by companies participating in the business exhibition taking place on Sunday November 17th, 2002 in the afternoon at the Cabaret du Capitole de Québec.

The Mishtapew Awards of Excellence Gala is a not-to-be-missed event in the aboriginal and non-aboriginal business community. Not only does it confirms aboriginal entrepreneurship potential but it is also an exceptional showcase that presents the know-how of this particular group of business people and makes it possible for the general public to discover and appreciate the entrepreneurial success of the First people.

With the support of governmental institutions and private enterprises, the Gala has received, since 1998, nearly 3,000 guests and has rewarded more than 60 award winners. The Gala demonstrates the dynamic nature and diversity of the aboriginal entrpreneurship.
