HUNTING,
FISHING AND TRAPPING COORDINATING COMMITTEE
The
Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Coordinating Committee was established
pursuant to Section 24 of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.
The Committee is made up of Native representatives (Cree, Inuit
and Naskapi) and of representatives of the governments of Quebec
and Canada. Its principal function is to review, manage and in
certain cases supervise the Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Regime
established for the Territory. This year, the Committee is organizing
the 9th edition of the North American Caribou Workshop that will
be held in Kuujjuaq, Quebec April 23 - 27, 2001.
The
9th North American Caribou Workshop will be held from April 23rd
to the 27th, 2001 in Kuujjuaq, Quebec , under the auspices
of the Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Coordinating Committee. The
purpose of the North-American Caribou Workshop is to bring together
people who are interested in the state of the caribou (biologists,
government officials, researchers and members of the aboriginal
communities who harvest caribou) to share their knowledge about
the species in the interest of better managing caribou.
